On Reserve - Mandate - to provide support & financial assistance to help clients develop skills for future employment.

Off Reserve - Mandate - to provide support & financial assistance to Off Reserve Band Members to become self sufficient through employment.

AISH - Assured Income for Severely Handicapped - Mandate - to provide clients with individual & financial support.

Child Welfare - Mandate - to ensure that the delivery of Child and Family Services is implemented in a manner that recognizes Indian traditions, languages, values and culture.

Boys Home - Mandate - a residential name that provides 24 hour care for (3) Band Members with disabilities.  The parents of the residents, act in an advisory capacity to the home, known as the keehewkamik Advisory Committee.

Fee For Service - Mandate to provide support services under child welfare on a fee for services to children and families.

 

APPLICATION PROCESSES

On Reserve -
1. Make appointment to see income support worker
2. Complete On Reserve Social Assistance Application
3. Submit all required documents
4. Attend Appointment

 Off Reserve -
1. Contact Intake Worker
2. Complete Off Reserve Application
3. Submit all required documents to intake worker
4. The file is then reviewed by supervisor, and then forwarded on to a Financial Benefits Worker
5. The worker will then do a home visit to complete the intake.

Mabel Arcand Children's Home (MACH)

MACH is located on the Alexander First Nation, 17 km west of Morinville.

MACH is a fourteen (14) bed faciltiy that accomodates children from infant to twelve years of age.

MACH utilizes community resources such as: Kipohtakaw Education Centre (Headstart to Grade Twelve) and Alexander Health Centre.

MACH belongs to the Wapski Mahikan Society (Fee for Service) and is able to provide assistance with transporting children, supervised visits and youth workers.

 

Mission Statement:

Mabel Arcand Children's Home (MACH) provides a safe environment and the highest quality of care for children and sibling groups, based on the holistic family values and traditions of Native People.  Therefore, the goal of MACH is to provide our children with physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual needs.

 

Belief Statement:

We believe by providing the child(ren) with the following their transition will be least disruptive:             
* traditional/cultural values and teachings,
* positive structure
* safe environment
* nuturing environment

We further believe that by providing these services, the child(ren) will strengthen and enhance their future well-being.

 Goals & Objectives

  • to provide an easy transition to a permanent placement.
  • to provide reunification within a family where the needs of the child(ren) will continue to be addressed.
  • MACH is a twenty-four (24) hour emergency transitional home.
  • MACH is commitment is to be the best interest of protecting the rights and self-worth of children.
  • MACH accommodates children infant to 12 years old.
  • MACH is prepared to work with Social Workers, family, professionals and other resources, i.e. Drivers, Youth Workers, etc...
  • MACH's staffing primarily consists of individuals who are native or of a native ancestry.
  • MACH utilizes a community elder to assist in the teachings of our traditions and culture.
