Philosophy:

Alexander Health Services is committed to provide holistic (emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual) services to the members of Alexander First Nation. A.H.S shall achieve this goal through health promotion, education and support towards a healthier lifestyle.

 

1. Administrative

 Receptionist- Answers phones, takes phone messages for the HS staff, greets visitors, and records the mail.

 Health Services Clerk- Performs all the Health Services clerical duties.

 Administrative Assistant- Responsible for the administrative and financial duties for the A.H.S.

 Health Director- Manages Alexander Health Services, the Kipohtakawkamihk Lodge, the In-Home Care program, Patient transportation, and the Seniors utility program. Advocate and liaison for Health Issues. Ensures the delivery of health programs.

 Executive Assistant- Assists the Director, and perform the Director’s duties when absent.

 Custodian- Provides cleaning services for the Health Centre.

 Maintenance- Provides minor repairs and maintenance to the Health Centre building.

 Portfolio Holder- Liaison between Chief and Council and A.H.S. Advocates and negotiates for Health programs.

 In-House/ Cultural Advisor- Supports and provides spiritual guidance.

 Health Committee- Supports, promotes, and advocates for A.H.S.

 

2. Treatment Services

 Visiting Physician- Home visits, upon request. Dr.McBeath is available one day per month. Please call her Edmonton office at (780) 474-3992 to book an appointment with her at A.H.S.

 Prenatal Classes/ Groceries- Classes, information, and nutritious food available for expecting mothers.

 Dental Therapist- Monday to Wednesday. Three (3) days per week. 8:30 am-4:30pm. Treatment and prevention.

 

3. Rehabilitation Services

 Rehabilitation Assistant- Monday to Friday. Schedules appointments for the therapists, follow-up on home visits, provides moderate treatment (massage, hot/cold packs and wax treatment.) On call evenings and week-ends. Also, monitors the rehabilitation equipment at the Health Centre and in the community.

 

  1. Physio Therapist- Every Wednesday. 8:30 am- 4:30 pm. Services include; hands on treatment, and assessments. Available for home visits.
  2. Occupational Therapist- Available for equipment requests, home adaptations/ assessments for adult equipment.
  3. Massage Therapy- Mondays. 9:00 am- 3:30 pm. Provides hands on massaging. Provides education on the basic massage techniques for all family members.
  4. Accupuncture- Wednesdays. 8:30 am- 4:30 pm.

 

4. Community Health

 

Community Health Nurse – Available Monday to Friday. Also on call on evenings and week-ends. Provides health education, promotes prevention (i.e. immunization, pre-natal classes and coupons.)

 Community Health Representatives- Assists the nurse in health education and prevention. On call evenings and weekends. Assists in promoting environmental health.

 Environmental Technician- Performs water testing within the community.

 

5. Home Care

 

Home Care Nurse- Provides treatment services and care to the chronically ill, the elders lodge, the Boys Home and the hospital discharged clients. Co-ordinates palliative care, in-service training and foot care. On call evenings and weekends.

 

Home Care Coordinator/ Elder Outreach Worker- Monitors the home care program, services and the home care workers. Provides support services to the elders.

 

6. Community Wellness

 

Counselors- Refers clients to treatment and wellness programs. Provides individual counseling, after care support, and group counseling. Promotes prevention programs, workshops, support groups and AA meetings. Available evenings and weekends.

 

Mental Health Personnel – Provides mental support where required. Implements prevention programs, including the youth programs. Orientates new professional therapists. Educates the community members on the availability of therapy services available as per NHIB. Allocates necessary resources as required. Available evenings and weekends.

 

Psychological Therapy- Available on Tuesdays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Provides individual counseling, and home visits upon request. Accesses proper resources for clientele.

 

7. Patient Transportation

 

Patient Transportation Coordinator- Coordinates the transportation program, the services and the medi-vans/ vehicles.

 

Referral Clerk- Schedules the appointments for all patient transportation. All appointments for transportation have to be booked at least two weeks in advance.

 

Driver- Transports clients to and from appointments, during the hours of 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Some exceptions for the early or late appointments, depending on urgency.

 

Part-time driver- Available in the absence of the driver, or as required.
